Bioconversion of Glycerol to 1,3-Propanediol Using Klebsiella pneumoniae L17 with the Microbially Influenced Corrosion of Zero-Valent Iron

The bacterial redox state is essential for controlling the titer and yield of final metabolites in most bioconversion processes. Glycerol conversion to 1,3-propanediol (PDO) requires a large amount reducing equivalent expression reductive pathways. Zero-valent iron (ZVI) was used glycerol Klebsiella pneumoniae L17. level 1,3-PDO production increased with oxidation ZVI (31.8 ± 1.2 vs. 25.7 0.5, no ZVI) while cellular NADH/NAD+ (0.6 0.3, ZVI). X-ray diffraction showed that oxide (Fe2O3) formed during fermentation. L17 obtained electrons from dissolved continuously form cracks on surface, suggesting microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) involved surface ZVI. ZVI-implemented fermentation shifted more glycerol-reductive pathway. qPCR-presented dehydratase (DhaB) implementation strongly expressed compared control. These results suggest can contribute biotransformation PDO by inducing intracellular metabolic shifts. This study could also novel microbial strategy application MIC.
